Dr. Phong Vo (University of Technology Sydney) is looking for potential candidates to join his team for PhD training. He has strong expertise in wastewater treatment (e.g., micropollutants, PFASs) and resource recovery (e.g., rare earth elements, precious metals) using bioprocess technology with more than 35 publications in reputable journals (e.g., Water Research, Environmental Science and Technology, Bioresource Technology). His research has been applied practically in Bangladesh, Thailand, and Queensland (Australia). Dr. Vo has secured more than $600,000 AUD in his research funding, and built strong relationships with industries such as Synergen Met, Evocra, Ramboll, Exxon Mobil. He is currently running projects focusing on mining wastewater treatment, and recover rare earth elements and precious metals from ores and mining waste. The technologies used are microalgae and acid-producing bacteria for bioleaching and biomining processes. The overarching goal is to mitigate the impact of climate change via boosting the recovery of rare earth elements and previous metals to support the production of renewable energy manufacturing (e.g., wind turbines, permanent magnetic, solar panels), and electric vehicles. Candidates who are readily supported by CSC scholarship and have background in bioengineering, environmental engineering, hydrometallurgy, molecular biology, and relevant disciplines are welcomed to drop him a CV: phong.vo@uts.edu.au Dr. Phong Vo profile: https://profiles.uts.edu.au/Phong.Vo English requirement for enrolment at UTS: https://www.uts.edu.au/study/international/essential-information/english-language-requirements Details about Climate Change Cluster (C3) - UTS can be found here: https://www.uts.edu.au/climate-change-cluster At C3, we provide the highest training quality in a multi-cultural environment. Students and staff come from across Australia, France, USA, Italia, India and Iran. C3 has strong relationships with industry, government, and other research institutions (e.g., CSIRO, ANSTO) to diversity their research directions.
