1.The application for the entry permission will be made by you, after you obtain an official admission letter accompanying with a financial support document. The entry is issued by the Immigration Department of Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government. This means that you do NOT need to obtain an official approval from your institution in order to process your student status in Hong Kong. However, some supporting documents, e.g., transcripts, graduation certificates, etc. are still necessarily arranged and verified by your university. The application for entry permission should be sent to the Immigration Department of Hong Kong. Please note that you should preferably apply for our programmes before January 31, 2010. Late application may hamper the admission probability. 5. A student who has a first degree or beyond in Electronic Engineering, Physics or Applied Physics or Applied Mathematics with minor in Electronics, Computer Science and Engineering, is eligible for postgraduate programmes. Attaching to the form, you should include copies of your transcripts, certificates (Bachelor or Master), awards, reprints of published papers, research plan (one page only), English proficiency test (only one of the tests), (e.g., TOFEL, College English Test (Level 6), IELTS (TOFEL: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, 79 internet-based; CET (Level 6:430); IELTS (Band 6.5) ), GMAT (verbal, Band 21); and GRE (highly recommended), whatever to demonstrates your academic and research capability. If you submit your application via on-line, you have to send the relevant materials separately. Please send the relevant materials directly to Ms. Stella Ho, Department of Electronic Engineering, Room 404, SHB Engineering Building, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shatin, NT, Hong Kong SAR. 6. A student will be awarded more than 12,000 HK$ monthly for 12 months per anuum, after he/she is admitted. He/she will be assigned for teaching and other duties. The first teaching term is from September to December. The second term is from January to May. A student has 14 calendar days for annual leave. The normative period for full-time Mphil is 24 months, and 36 months for full-time PhD. The tuition fee is currently 42,100 HK$ per annum. 7. An articulate MPhil-PhD program (Zhi Bo) is implemented by the Division onwards from 2005/06. The normative period for the study without a second degree (e.g., a master or MPhil degree) is 48 months; therwise, it is 36 months. A bachelor degree holder is eligible for application. If so, please indicate PhD program clearly in your application form. If you are only interested in MPhil program, please indicate MPhil in the form. 8. Since 2005/06 and onwards, any applicant for PhD program has to take a written exam (Candidacy Exam) to qualify his/her candidacy as PhD student within about one-year, after he/she is admitted . Applicant who fails the exam may be entitled as MPhil student. 10. The HKSAR Government is currently practicing the Admission of Talents Scheme. The objective of the Scheme is to attract persons from outside Hong Kong with expertise and skills not readily available locally to come to Hong Kong for employment. Under this scheme on-local postgraduate students can apply for working permit after their graduate. The Immigration Department may grant them three-month residence permit immediately after graduation. The detailed information can be found from the website of the HKSAR Immigration Department. |
