PhD Position (full-time): Rehabilitation for individuals with stroke or dementia; Therapeutic interventions for preventing falls and improving functioning in older adults Contract Length: 3/4 years Research associate/assistant Position (full-time): Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy to study the changes in brain activity during dual-task walking and the effects of structured cognitive-motor exercise in individuals with stroke (https://jobs.polyu.edu.hk/job_detail.php?job=230904004); Balance and mobility function post-stroke (https://jobs.polyu.edu.hk/job_detail.php?job=240115007) Contract Length: 1/2/3 years Institution: The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Prof. Marco Pang is currently Chair Professor of Neurorehabilitation and Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Dean of the University Research Facility in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Chair of the World Physiotherapy Asia Western Pacific (AWP) Region of World Physiotherapy, President of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Association, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Hong Kong Physiotherapy Journal. Prof. Pang obtained his BSc in Physical Therapy and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Following his doctoral study, he was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) to conduct stroke rehabilitation research in University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. His research primarily focuses on geriatric rehabilitation, especially among individuals with stroke and dementia. His research has produced 143 refereed journal papers (47.5% published in Q1 journals) in highly rated journals; 5 book chapters. He works closely with frontline rehabilitation practitioners to translate the research findings into community service programs. His excellence in research work is internationally recognized. He has delivered more than 150 invited lectures and workshops in different parts of the world. In 2023, he was granted the World Physiotherapy International Service Award for Research. This award is a highly regarded honour that is awarded only once every four years. Prof. Pang is the first physiotherapist from Hong Kong in history to receive this award. Requirements: • Master’s degree in a health-related discipline, such as medicine, OT, PT, neuroscience etc. (preferably with a dissertation component); • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; • Previous research experience in neuroscience rehabilitation, geriatric rehabilitation, and data analysis will be an advantage; • Preference will be given to those with experience in human clinical research and a good command of spoken Chinese, with fluency in Cantonese for the research assistant position.
