BACKGROUND:The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of biomarkers, including inflammatory markers, anaemic markers, lipid markers, and renal function indices, in detecting and staging chronic kidney disease (CKD) at various stages. Additionally, the study aimed to investigate potential interactions among these biomarkers. METHODS:A total of 202 CKD patients who met the inclusion criteria were categorized based on their CKD stage. The prevalence of anaemia was examined in patients at various stages of CKD, and a comparison was made between the levels of serum biomarkers in CKD patients with and without anaemia. Additionally, changes in inflammatory markers, lipid markers, and renal function indices were analyzed, along with their correlation to anaemia markers, in order to evaluate their potential as diagnostic and prognostic markers for the disease, as well as their interactions. RESULTS: By comparing CKD2-5 patients, a statistically significant difference in the distribution of anaemia across different stages of CKD was observed (χ2=38.404, P<0.001).The levels of inflammatory factors in patients with CKD stages 2-5 exhibited a gradual increase, with a notable difference observed in the levels of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) between various groups (F=3.138, P=0.028). Additionally, there were significant variations in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) , urea nitrogen (BUN), haemoglobin (Hb) , white blood cell (WBC), triglyceride (TG), and LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c) levels among patients with different stages of CKD. The inflammatory marker IFN-γ and lipid marker LDL-c demonstrated positive correlations with renal injury markers BUN and e GFR, respectively. Furthermore, the anaemia marker Hb exhibited a significant positive correlation with e GFR (r=0.502, P<0.001). CONCLUSION:The association between the levels of inflammatory markers, anaemia markers, lipid markers, and renal function indices at various stages and the onset and progression of CKD is significant. However, further investigation is warranted to explore the potential value of these markers in predicting disease progression. |
