Dr. Stringer 2024 招收1-2名CSC PhD students. 有兴趣的可以联系我或者直接email他。 Project: The in-air collision dynamics of complex fluid droplets This project aims to explore the influence of dynamic fluid properties on microdroplet collision outcomes, particularly relevant in inkjet printing applications. Inkjet printing, known for its precise patterning of microdroplets, faces limitations in ink choice due to printer constraints. Recent advancements bypass these limitations by employing in-air collisions of droplets for synthesis and patterning purposes. While past studies have focused on Newtonian droplets, inkjet fluids pose complexities with phase changes and chemical reactions. The hypothesis suggests that time-dependent properties of complex fluids significantly impact collision dynamics. This project will include both experimental characterisation of model fluids and numerical modelling of collision events. Initial experiments will use non-Newtonian fluids to validate experimental techniques and numerical models. Subsequent experiments will explore fluids exhibiting dynamic properties, such as surface tension variations, with corresponding numerical models. Understanding these dynamics promises insights for optimising inkjet printing processes, especially in rapid chemical synthesis and tissue engineering applications. https://profiles.auckland.ac.nz/j-stringer Short Bio: Jonathan Stringer is a senior lecturer in the department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland. He has been actively researching in the areas of inkjet printing, additive manufacturing, coatings and printed electronics for over 10 years, producing a number of peer reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings and book chapters. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester in 2007 and has subsequently worked in research positions both at Manchester and at the University of Sheffield. email: j.stringer@auckland.ac.nz |
