审稿意见回来了,请大家帮忙看看什么意思 1.The manuscript describes the reaction of melamine with three grades/molecular weights of a monohydroxy functional PEG in the presence of KOH catalyst. The kinetics of the condensation of these two species is followed by IR spectroscopy focusing on the absorption band for the secondary amine at 3200 cm-1. By the authors own admission, there is a superposition of the –OH band of the mPEG and the –NH band of the MA in the 3200-3500 cm-1 range (p. 7) and during the reaction the absorption for the –OH peak decreases with consumption as the absorption for the new secondary amine species increase. The authors also admit that the signal for the –OH group is not particularly accurate because of the fact that the –OH is an end (“ended”) group, suggesting further uncertainty in the IR spectra. There is no attempt to deconvolute the individual peak contributions, although the authors do use the –CH2- peak at 2870cm-1 as an internal standard for the melamine. The fact that the –OH peak interferes with the secondary amine peak suggest that the kinetic data is, at best, flawed. As the absorption of the secondary amine peaks is increasing, the absorption of the –OH peak is decreasing ( the authors note that the peak either decreasees or disappears complately) and the A (%T?) value measured at 3140 cm-1 is clearly the result of the sum of these 2 absorptions, not a monolithic value representing the increasing secondary amine product. The authors MUST provide a literature precedent for using this particular IR method of determining the kinetic rate of secondary amine formation or I will not be able to recommend that the manuscript be accepted for publication. 2. In the introduction the authors mention the ability to control the amination grafting process on p.3: “…in order to control amination grafting process and obtain mPEG modified melamine monomer…” While the authors do present data that describes the formation of melamine - mPEG adducts, there is little evidence that any degree of control has been achieved with the limited amount of information presented. Please clarify this statement. To what degree do the authors believe that the reaction can be controlled and what real impact does it have on the end use of these materials (concrete slump)? 3. Conversion rate alpha is really % conversion at time t as defined in equation 2 & 3 unless the authors are planning to calculate instantaneous rates and discuss a change in reaction rate versus time the description of this value needs to be explained with more care. 4. The straight line fit in Figure 6 is not particularly good. Please provide a degree of accuracy / quality of the fit, i.e. what is the r2 (r squared) value for the fit (0.8? 0.70?). 请大家看看什么意思?希望可大? |
