Title: Ph.D. Openings for Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses (Fall 2024) Multiple Ph.D. positions with full RA support are available in Hongyu An's research group on the research direction of Neuromorphic Neural Prostheses (https://sites.google.com/mtu.edu/hongyu). Hongyu is an assistant professor at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Michigan Tech. His research interest mainly focuses on Neuromorphic Computing, Neuromorphic Electronic Circuit Design for Artificial Intelligence, and Neuromorphic Neural prostheses. Neuromorphic computing (NC) is an emerging research topic that realizes artificial intelligence by emulating and building the human brain, including neurons, synapses, and Spiking Neural Networks. This approach involves both hardware design and algorithm development, such as application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), neural network algorithms, edge computing, etc. Recently, the group has been applying NC on Neuromorphic Neural prostheses. The project aims to develop Neuromorphic Neural prostheses using integrated circuits and memristors for cogitative disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease. The group closely collaborates with top research groups/institutes, including Intel neuromorphic research lab (Loihi chips), Sandia National Labs, Oak Ridge National Labs, the institute of Neuroinformatic of ETH Zurich, on spiking neural networks, and medical applications.
