请用英文与导师联系 ---- Dear Students We have 2 Fully-Funded PhD Positions at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to begin in September 2024. Details follow: Project Title: Multi-Agent Systems with Variable Morphology: Models, Controls, and Applications Abstract: Multi-agent systems composed of variable morphology units are a brand new class of autonomous systems that (due to its controllable non-rigid geometry) can perform many advanced tasks that traditional fixed-geometry agent systems cannot do: e.g. deform its body to fit a target contour, conform to different object geometries to manipulate them, modify its shape and assemble into curved structures, self-reconfigure to pass through narrow passages, to name a few cases. Despite the evident practical benefits of developing this kind of system, the active control of the agents' morphology is still a largely unexplored capability in the literature. Capitalising on our team's expertise on shape servoing, non-linear control and variable stiffness robots, this new project sets the objective of establishing a formal methodology that facilitates the modelling, analysis, fabrication and controller design for a novel class of deformable multi-agent systems. PhD Positions: We are seeking to recruit 2 fully-funded PhD students (4-year programme) to conduct this project. Student 1 (mechatronics) will focus on the design, fabrication and experimental validation of a new class of mobile agents with variable morphology. Student 2 (control) will work on the development, analysis and real-time integration of vision-based controls for this new type of deformable multi-agent system. Requirements: We welcome applicants from engineering disciplines, computer science, applied mathematics, or related areas. Candidates must EITHER have a GPA > 3.2 out of 4.0 from a top university ( world ranking within 500 or subject ranking within 200) OR good publication record. In addition, candidates are preferred to have a research-based master's degree (that needs to be completed by spring/summer 2024). Furthermore, IELTS/TOFEL score meeting PolyU's entrance requirement.
