|
|
Introduction: Prof. Danjue Chen's group at North Carolina State University (NCSU) plans to recruit 2 PhD students to work in autonomous vehicles (AVs). Particular interests lie in the intersection of vehicle control, human decision making, AI, and traffic flow. Potential research topics include, (1) human-AV interactions (e.g., competition/cooperation in the one-to-one and multi-agent context), (2) AI for AV control (e.g., reinforcement learning), and (3) field test, modeling, and control of AVs. Conditions: (1) Students with STRONG motivation to explore cutting-edge and interdisciplinary transportation problems and solutions. Preferably, the students will have (a) experience or interests in the areas of control, AI and human decision making, (b) good analytic capability and math/programming skills, and (c) good writing and oral communication skills (e.g., TOEFL and GRE are required; preferably, GRE writing is 4 or above but not mandatory). (2) Engineering/science/math background is preferred, and computer science/automation/transportation background is ideal. Master’s degree is preferred but not required. (3) A very competitive research assistantship will be provided (stipend and tuition). Contact: If you are interested, please send your resume and transcripts (informal) to Dr. Chen (dchen33@ncsu.edu). Starting time: Summer/Fall 2024. Application time: Preferably by 1/1/2024; applicants are highly encouraged to contact Dr. Chen for inquiries. Bio of Prof. Chen – Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at NC State University. Prior to NCSU, she had worked at UMass Lowell, University of Wisconsin - Madison, and California PATH at University of California, Berkeley. She had her PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology and BS from Peking University. She is the recipient of the prestigious NSF CAREER award and several other NSF awards. She has published over 30 papers in the top journals in transportation. Dr. Chen's research interests include modeling and control of connected and automated vehicles, human-cyber-physical-system of smart vehicles, traffic flow theory, and smart cities. Her research has been sponsored by NSF, USDOT, state DOTs, and the industry. For more information about the work and the team, please visit her webpage for her publications. About CCEE at NC State According to U.S. News, NCSU’s civil engineering program is ranked #25. North Carolina’s rapid growth makes the state a top spot for young professionals and families. The Research Triangle area has three top universities (NCSU, Duke, UNC) along with many other research facilities. It’s also a national hotspot for high-tech enterprises. |
