Postdoctoral Position Available To Study The Endocrinology of Bone
|
|
A position is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Gerard Karsenty at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in New York City. The goal of the laboratory is to demonstrate through state-of-the-art genetic, molecular and physiological approaches that many pathways regulating the most classical physiological functions in mammals remain to be discovered. A further goal of the laboratory is to show that harnessing these novel regulatory pathways may help treating degenerative diseases caused by the disruption of a given physiological process. Our studies use bone as a model organ and focus on osteocalcin, a hormone regulating an unusually large number of physiological processes. Current projects in the laboratory include but are not limited to: • The description of novel functions of osteocalcin with a special emphasis on novel osteocalcin functions in the brain. • The elucidation of it signaling pathway in various organs e.g., the central and peripheral nervous systems and peripheral organs. • The influence of pregnancy on physiology in the offspring. • The extension of this work to the treatment of degenerative diseases. • The exploration of novel pathways underlying metastases to bone of various cancers. To carry out these and other projects, we are looking for MD, PhD or MD-PhDs skilled in molecular and cellular biology methods, biochemistry and cell culture and who are eager to discover new biology’s. An experience in mouse genetics and neuroscience would be a plus. For more information please contact Fanny L. Rodriguez at flr2113@cumc.columbia.edu Your application file should contain a complete CV, contact information or reference letter of 3 referees. Columbia University seeks to nurture a work environment regardless of gender, age, cultural background or nationality.
