prof. k.c. chan (香港理工大学工业及系统工程系 head) 现欢迎有兴趣的同学申请 #理大博士生奖学金计划#。

1. 申请名称：2023/24 polyu unified phd scholarship framework (upsf)
香港理工大学（理大）现推出 2022/23 理大博士生奖学金计划，欢迎于学术及研究方面皆表现卓越的学生申请入读理大的全日制博士学位课程。

2. 申请资格
申請人須符合下列賧格
  a. basic requirements
(i) meet the university's english language requirements and entrance requirements of phd programmes
         • 3-year phd programmes: normally hold an mphil or equivalent (a research postgraduate degree
            with a dissertation as an award requirement);
         • 4-year phd programmes: normally hold a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree with first
            class honours (or equivalent qualification)
(ii) have a high-quality research proposal; and
(iii) have two strong referee’s reports / reference letters in english.
  b. scheme entrance requirements
polyu presidential phd fellowship scheme (pppfs)
            (i) qs/the/arwu world top-200 universities or top-50 subjects; and gpa ≥ 3.7/4.0; top 15% of class; or first class honours
or  (ii) publication / merit score+ ≥ 6
3+1 top-up funding scheme (3+1)
            (i) qs/the/arwu world top-500 universities or top-150 subjects; and gpa ≥ 3.2/4.0; or top 40% of class;
or  (ii) publication / merit score+ ≥ 2

(each jcr q1 paper / merit at or above national level = 3 scores. each jcr q2 paper / merit at or above university level = 1 score.)

3. 具体资助情况：
1) 年限 (normal duration)：three years or four years
2) 助学金 (stipend)：over hk$200,000 per year
3) 旅行津贴 (travel allowance)：hk$13,300 per year

4. 招生研究方向 (applicable research areas):
1)  high entropy alloy
2)  metallic glass
3)  laser materials processing and 3d printing
4) catalysis
5) shape memory alloy/solid-state refrigeration
6) other metallic materials, etc.

9. about prof. k.c. chan
ir prof. k.c. chan is chair professor of manufacturing engineering. he obtained his associateship in production and industrial engineering, and received a formal engineering graduate training for about two years in hong kong, he began his phd study in hong kong polytechnic in 1987. he then joined the department of manufacturing engineering of the same institution, and was promoted from assistant lecturer to chair professor. he was appointed as head of department of industrial and systems engineering since 2014. he was also director of the advanced manufacturing technology research centre of the department, and am currently an associate director of research institute for advanced manufacturing of the university.
over the past 30 years, prof. chan has been contributing to the research, the teaching of various undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, development and management of academic programmes, and academic leadership. his research areas are materials engineering and manufacturing technologies. he has published over 290 research papers in international journals including nature communications, advanced materials, advanced science, and acta materialia, and secured more than 20 external research grants. he was listed as one of the top 2% most highly cited scientists by stanford university in 2021. currently, he is an editor or editorial board member of a number of journals such as materials design and processing communications, scientific reports, and metals. he was a member of the engineering panel of hong kong research grants council (2005-2010), the selection committee of nsfc/rgc joint research scheme 2014/15, and the innovation and technology support programme assessment panel (2015-2020). professor chan is a fellow of the institution of engineering and technology (iet) and the hong kong institution of engineers (hkie). he received the president’s award for achievement in the category of research and scholarly activities (1995/96) and research grant achievement awards (2007 and 2012) of the faculty of engineering of the hong kong polytechnic university.

10. about the hong kong polytechnic university (polyu)

11. about the department of industrial and systems engineering (ise)
the department of industrial and systems engineering was founded in 1950’s. we are a dynamic and multi-disciplinary department very strong in applied research. over the years, the profile of the department has broadened its scope, and now covers both the industrial and the service sectors.
we have a critical mass of academic staff members who are world-class researchers in the strategic research areas of the department, and with the research activities supported by state-of-the-art research facilities and centers. these include the state key laboratory of ultra-precision machining technology, the advanced manufacturing technology research centre, the knowledge management and innovation research centre, the micro/nano fabrication laboratory, the ng tat lun digital factory, and integrated product design laboratory.
