The Shock, Trauma, and Anesthesiology Research (STAR Center) Center and the Center for Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine are currently recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join the Yuan laboratory with a potential starting date of August 1, 2023, to work on the lung vascular regeneration. The primary focus in Yuan laboratory includes 1) Understanding the lung vascular niche during diseases and development using multi-omics and whole organ culture strategies; 2) Developing lung vascular and alveolar tissue models for drug screening applications combining human iPSC technology with bioengineering principles. This excellent research opportunity will provide extensive training in cellular and molecular biology, bioengineering, and computational biology in a translation-oriented environment. These highly translational projects are funded by NHLBI (K99/R00 Pathway to Independent Award) and AHA and involve human subjects and rodent animals.
Qualifications:
Postdoctoral fellow: The candidate for this position is expected to be a highly self-motivated, recent PhD or MD/PhD graduate with a strong background in bioengineering, molecular/cell biology, and animal physiology. Additionally, the candidate is expected to have good written and oral communication skills and an independent ability to design and execute experiments.
PhD student: Students with B.S. or M.S. in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or any other related fields are encouraged to apply. The candidates are expected to have a great interest in bioengineering, molecular biology, and translational research.
Candidates with additional experience in the following skills and areas will be preferred but not required: human stem cell culture, animal handling, qRT-PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, and familiar with 3D cell culture systems such as organoids and/or organ on chips.
