A funded graduate student position is available in the Sustainable Engineering & Built Environment
(SEBE) group at the Department of Sustainable Resources Management (within the sustainable
construction management program) in the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.
Research theme
The ideal candidate will contribute to (at least) one of the below research directions with their skills
and interests.
1. Sustainable material/structure design (concrete/ pavement) with alternative, low carbon, and
by-products/waste materials.
2. Circular economy and material flow analysis, and life cycle assessment in the built
environment.
3. Urban building energy modeling and future climate scenarios
4. Future energy systems and the built environment
Required qualifications
o Applicants must hold Bachelor’s (preferably Master’s) degree in Civil Engineering,
Construction Engineering/Management, or Environmental Engineering, from a reputed
University.
o Applicants should have excellent grade point averages, Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
scores, and must meet the requirements of ESF admission.
Desired qualifications
o Experience in material design, and excellent lab work capabilities (particularly concrete)
(theme 1).
o Good understanding in material design and sustainable construction (theme 1).
o Knowledge in sustainable building, energy systems, building energy simulation and modeling
(themes 3 & 4).
o Knowledge in circularity, eco-design and life cycle assessment methodologies, tools and
indicators (theme 2).
o High interest in scientific research, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Good communication skills.
o Experience in writing high-quality scientific papers.
