Job Posting Details
Formally established in June 2022, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology(Guangzhou)(HKUST(GZ)) is a cooperatively-run higher education institution between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" and the "Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou". HKUST(GZ) is located at No.1 Duxue Road Qingsheng Hub Cluster, Nansha District, Guangzhou. The campus covers an area of about 1,669 mu (111.3 hectares) and is divided into two construction phases. The first phase covers an area of about 716 mu (47.7 hectares) with a floorage of about 636,000 square meters (63.6 hectares), which has been officially put into use in September 2022.

The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures. HKUST(GZ) comprises four Hubs, namely Function Hub, lnformation Hub, Systems Hub Society Hub and offers 15 postgraduate degrees. At steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000.
The Urban Governance and Design (UGOD) Thrust in the Society Hub aims to conduct cutting-edging research and disseminate knowledge to assist in the economic and social development of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond. in 2024, the UGOD Thrust expects to have an undergraduate program in Urban and Rural Planning. UGOD is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow for cross-disciplinary research on one or two of the following subjects:
Geographic Information Science and Remote Sensing
Urban Analytics and Sustainable Urban Planning and Design
Geospatial Big Data and Al/Deep Learning
Neuroscience, environmental psychology, and/or cognitive science

The candidate is expected to work together with 江斌教授 Professor Bin Jiang's (https://facultyprofiles.hkust-gz.edu.cn/faculty-personal-page/JIANG-BIN/binjiang) research team to conduct cross-disciplinary projects and collaborative quantitative research in urban governance and design towards a sustainable planet.

Qualification of Candidates
PhD degree holder who specializes in disciplines related to cities or city science
Proficiency of written and spoken English
GIS programming skills Python, C++， and Al/machine learning toolkits and frameworks
Research experience in one or two of the above mentioned subjects

The position will only be offered to a candidate who can be successfully admitted to The Postdoctoral Research Station in the Chinese mainland.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
The salary offered is highly competitive by international standards and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience. Additionally, ample laboratory space and excellent research equipment and support will be provided. For candidates successfully admitted to the Postdoctoral Research Station in the Chinese generous research funds and allowances will be subsidized by the government.

All posts are Chinese Mainland appointments to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with local employment laws and regulations. lnitial appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract of 1 - 2 years commencing immediately. Reappointment thereafter will be subject to performance, mutual agreement, and funding availability.
