The major problem is that your manuscript does not fulfill the basic requirements of a NOTE in JOC. As described in the Guideline for Authors, "Notes should not present preliminary results that the author intends to publish later in a more complete form." This sentence expresses that Notes shall summarize "closed chapters" of research (and not parts of ongoing investigations). You yourself, however, state in the last sentence of your manuscript that you plan to continue your studies. ("Ongoing work seeks to gain further insights into the mechanism of this reaction and to expand the scope of the cyanation of inactive sp3 C-H bonds." This, however, is NOT the character of a JOC note. I therefore wish to encourage you to describe your findings in a Full Paper at a later stage when your subsequent studies have been finished. I will then be happy to process your new manuscript in my editorial office considering it for subsequent publication in JOC.
