Ph.D. positions Research: Research topics include (1) Mechanics of active materials like liquid crystal elastomers, (2) Design and fabrication of flexible electronics to interface with biological tissues and organoids. Our research is highly multidisciplinary and lies at the intersection of mechanics, materials, electronics and biology. Students who are interested in any of those related areas are welcome to apply. Qualifications: • A bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related area • A M.S. degree with project experience and publications is preferred but not required Start date: Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. If you are interested, please send your CV and transcripts to Dr. Xueju "Sophie" Wang at xueju.wang@uconn.edu. Postdoc position Research: The candidates is expected to have research experiences or background in one or more of the following research areas: • Bioelectronic devices (thermal, oxygen sensors) and/or biochemical sensors • Microfluidic devices • Cell culture and organoids Start date: Available immediately, open until filled. If you are interested, please send your CV and two representative publications to Dr. Xueju "Sophie" Wang at xueju.wang@uconn.edu. About Dr. Wang: Dr. Xueju (Sophie) Wang is currently an Assistant Professor in MSE and IMS at UConn. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and did her postdoc with Prof. John A. Rogers at Northwestern University. Her current research group focuses on stimuli- responsive materials and structures as well as bio-integrated electronics, for applications from soft robotics to biomedical devices. Her recent works have been published in journals including Nature, Nature Communications, PNAS, Advanced Materials, and Matter. She is a recipient of EML Young Investigator Award, NSF CAREER Award, NIH Trailblazer AWARD, PMSE Young Investigator Award, and ASME Orr Early Career Award. About UConn: The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public research university in Storrs, Connecticut , about a half hour's drive from Hartford, 90 minutes from Boston, and two hours from the New York City.
