phd position in geotechnical / energy engineering at ucc project title: geothermal potential of large-scale tunnel infrastructure: a case study in dublin supervision team: dr. zili li (ucc), dr. jannis epting (basel university, switzerland) dr. mike long (ucd) this phd project will characterise geothermal ground conditions along tunnel infrastructures route and conduct thermo-hydro-mechanical (thm) coupled finite element analyses to evaluate both the energy efficiency and mechanical performance of the selected thermo-active tunnel sections and station structures. the project will consist of a collaboration between university college cork, transportation infrastructure ireland (the asset owner) and basel university, switzerland which will bring expertise in hydrogeological modelling of urban subsurface systems to the assessment of thermos-active tunnel infrastructure system at dublin ground settings. in addition, the phd student will receive advice dublin geological setting and ground conditions for shallow geothermal application from prof. mike long from university college dublin position description: one 4-year phd full-time position starts from 01 July 2023 or very soon thereafter. the stipend is 18,500 euros per annum with tuition fee waiver. candidate experience: the candidate should have a minimum 2.1 in an honours bachelor’s degree in civil / geotechnical engineering, or an equivalent standard from an overseas university. all applicants whose first language are not english must meet ucc english language entry requirement (e.g., ielts or toefl) in the link below: https://www.ucc.ie/en/study/comp ... sh-language-testing experience in geothermal energy, numerical modelling, ground-structure interaction for civil / geotechnical / geological engineering would be an advantage. application: please e-mail a cv (max. 2 pages) and a cover letter outlining your experience and motivation to dr. zili li (zili.li@ucc.ie) as soon as possible. 爱尔兰科克大学 （university college cork, ucc），是爱尔兰最古老的综合型大学之一，建校于1845年，qs全球排名前200，是爱尔兰第一所五星大学，连续三年获得年度大学称号。是一所著名的科研型大学，理学和工学实力在全球前100。据国际货币基金组织的数据统计，2018年的爱尔兰人均gdp达7.5万美元，位居世界第五位。 |
