[University of Macau] Founded in 1981, the University of Macau (UM) is an international public comprehensive university in Macao, with a multicultural campus and a system of whole-person education underpinned by faculties and residential colleges in an international education setup. UM is ranked in the 201-250 bracket in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, with a global ranking of No 5 in International Outlook, No 26 in THE Young University Rankings, No 33 in THE Asia University Rankings, and No 1 in the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities. In the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, it is ranked No 304. It is among the top 1% in Essential Sciences Indicators (ESI) rankings in ten subjects, including Engineering and Computer Science. [State key laboratory of the Internet of Things for Smart City] In July 2018, the University of Macau (UM) received the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the establishment of the nation’s first state key laboratory of the Internet of Things for smart city (IoTSC). The laboratory aims to provide for the needs of the country with the expertise of Macao and develop itself into a world-class laboratory with local characteristics. By solving the key scientific and technical issues of the Internet of Things for smart city, the laboratory will put forward common theories, algorithms and systems that are of fundamental importance, and develop exemplary applications for smart city. The laboratory has established its research offices on five fronts: intelligent sensing and network communication; urban big data and intelligent technology; smart energy; intelligent transportation; and public safety and disaster prevention. The first two have the purpose of establishing a research and development platform for the smart city and carrying out impactful scientific and technological research. The other three aim at typical applications to contribute to the moderate diversification of Macao’s economy. Link: https://skliotsc.um.edu.mo/ [Supervisor] Dr. Yulin Shao is currently a lecturer (assistant professor) in the Department of Engineering, University of Exeter, and a visiting researcher at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Imperial College London. He will join the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City, University of Macau in August 2023. His research interests include wireless communications and networking, signal processing, stochastic control, and machine learning. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Communications and Information Engineering (Hons.) from Xidian University in 2013 and 2016, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020. He was a research assistant with the Institute of Network Coding from March 2015 to August 2016, a visiting scholar with the Research Laboratory of Electronics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from September 2018 to March 2019, and a research associate with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London from January 2021 to Nov. 2022.
