New approaches to reduce fungal plant diseases. We are looking for excellent Ph.D. or Postdoc candidates to take part in a fascinating project on heat tolerance in fungi (Mechanisms of heat adaptation and use of advanced temperature treatments in disease management). Pathogenic fungi are the main cause of damage in agriculture. The main way to control plant diseases are hazardous synthetic fungicides. However, conventional fungicides often lose their efficacy due to selection pressure for pathogen resistance caused by their widespread use. The aim of the study is to develop alternative methods to control of fungal plant pathogens by a combination of heat treatments. Towards this end we study heat tolerance in Botrytis cinerea, a notorious plant pathogenic fungus that causes great agricultural losses. We use an integrative approach that combines molecular-biochemical work and genome editing, with application at the level of the whole organism (plants and fungi). 2.
