1. phd student in the area of disease model establishment or disease detection using microfluidic tools
we are looking for a passionate and self-motivated phd student to join our multidisciplinary team (entry in jan or sept 2024) to work on the development of microfluidic platforms and patient-derived disease models, for nanomedicine, bioimaging, early-stage detection, and point-of-care and precision medicine.
the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with a group of researchers from various disciplines and also assist the principal investigator in guiding junior researchers.

job requirements
• degree in biomedical engineering, biology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field;
• expertise in any of the following areas: disease models, microfluidics, point-of-care systems
• previous experience in any of the areas bioimaging, cell characterisation, image analysis is highly desirable
• hands-on experience with prototyping of biomedical systems/medical devices and physiological modeling is a plus.
• facilitate potential technology transfer (e.g. collaborative research; contract work; and commercialization of intellectual property);

requirements

we are looking for a passionate and self-motivated postdoctoral research fellow to join our multidisciplinary team (entry from february onwards) to work on the development of microfluidic platforms and patient-derived disease models, for nanomedicine, bioimaging, early-stage detection, and point-of-care and precision medicine.
the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with a group of researchers from various disciplines and also assist the principal investigator in guiding junior researchers and graduate students as well as in managing project and laboratory.

job requirements
• phd degree in biomedical engineering, materials, chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, environmental engineering, or any other related fields.
• published in reputable international journals.
• responsible and able to work independently.
• good written and spoken communication.
• good team player across multiple disciplines, including integrated microsystems, biophysical analysis and microfluidics
• facilitate potential technology transfer (e.g. collaborative research; contract work; and commercialization of intellectual property);

remuneration & duration of appointment
the remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. fringe benefits for full-time appointment include leave and medical insurance, etc. initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to 1-3 years commencing immediately. re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance and mutual agreements.

About the Research Centre
In collaboration with the CityU, the University of Oxford and the Karolinska Institutet, the Hong Kong Centre for Cerebro-cardiovascular Health Engineering (COCHE) was established with the support of the ITC-InnoHK Programme to develop new ways to tackle cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is the world's leading cause of morbidity and mortality. To address the most pressing health challenges caused by CVD, COCHE focuses on developing innovative technologies such as flexible and wearable devices, biomedical and molecular imaging, nano-biosensing, micro-robotics, healthcare AI systems, and other ground-breaking methods to enable early prevention, diagnosis and intervention of the disease. These technologies can reduce the human cost while also alleviating financial and social burdens on the healthcare system. The COCHE research center, located in Hong Kong Science Park, has several openings in research areas and administration.
