The aim of the project is to study the effect of self-assembly of organic semiconductors on their charge carrier transport. The role of the micro-, macrostructure and surface morphology on the charge trapping at the dielectric/semiconductor interface in field-effect transistors will be in focus. What are we looking for? A PhD position in the Organic Field-Effect Transistor group led by Dr. Tomasz Marszalek in the Department of Molecular Electronics at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz is available. The selected candidate will conduct cutting edge research at the interface of physics, chemistry, and materials science. In particular, the research is focused on the correlation between molecular self-assembly properties and supramolecular structures of organic semiconductors and their charge carrier transport. The research areas include fundamental physical chemistry of conjugated molecules and device physics of organic fieldeffect transistors. The candidate will gain fundamental knowledge in molecular electronics, self-assembly of organic semiconductors and important characterization techniques. His major experimental work will be based on X-ray diffraction methods: two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray scattering (2D-WAXS) and grazing incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS). Requirements We are looking for a highly motivated student supported by DAAD, Marie-Curie or CSC Scholarship with a background either in physics, chemistry, polymer science, materials science or related fields, to carry out the following tasks: 1. processing of organic semiconductor thin films, 2. micro- and macrostructure characterization, 3. electrical characterization and evaluation of key processing/device parameters. Send your cover letter, CV and two reference letters as a single PDF file to Dr. Tomasz Marszalek (marszalek@mpip-mainz.mpg.de) as a single PDF file. The cover letter must include the reasons why you want to join the group, a summary of your academic and research interests/achievements, and the earliest starting date. Please have the term ¡°PhD or Post-doc application_YourName¡± written in the subject line of your email. |
