1. Opportunities The Flood Alleviation with Nature and Geography (FANG) Research Group at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is currently looking for self-motived candidates to fill two (2) M.S./Ph.D. and one (1) Postdoc positions for the Spring and Fall of 2023. Selected candidates will be fully supported to work on varieties of research projects, solve real-world problems in hydrology and hydraulics, and publish research results at journal papers and academic conferences like AMS, AGU, EWRI, etc. 2. FANG Research Group (导师简介): Dr. Nick Fang is the Robert S. Gooch Faculty Fellow in Civil Engineering and the Principal Investigator (PI) of the FANG Research Group at UTA. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Rice University in 2008. He currently leads the academic council of the Interagency Flood Risk Management (InFRM) Team for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and National Weather Service (NWS). He has been actively working on surface water and water resources problems for about twenty years with a focus on the flood forecasting, floodplain/hydrodynamic simulation, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, reservoir operations and management, wetlands and natural resource, water infrastructure, storm water management, and water quality assessment for many watersheds and municipalities in the U.S. As one of the most actively water research groups in Texas, Dr. Fang’s team has been well funded with an approximate total of $11 million to perform high-profile research projects for many federal and state agencies and municipalities including the National Science Foundation, NASA, USACE, USDA, NOAA, TxDOT, the Texas General Land Office, Texas Water Development Board, the Trinity River Authority of Texas, the Harris County Flood Control District, the Tarrant Regional Water District, the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, etc. The group is currently working on multiple interdisciplinary research in collaboration with researchers from Rice University, Texas A&M University (College Station and Galveston), UT-Austin, UK Bristol, and TU Delft. His latest research interest includes water resource management, urban hydrology/ecohydrology, radar hydrology, physical-based hydrologic modeling, deep learning applications in hydrology/water resource, etc. For more information about the FANG Research Group, please visit the group website: https://fang.uta.edu. The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) (学校及周边简介): The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA or UT Arlington), founded in 1895, is a public Tier-1 research university and located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity." peering with Rice University, the University of Texas at Austin, John Hopkins University, etc. The Fall 2021 campus enrollment consists of close to 48,000 students making it the largest university in North Texas and the third-largest in Texas (right after Texas A&M University at College Station and The University of Texas at Austin). As of 2021, U.S. News & World Report ranks the College of Engineering at UTA among the 100 best engineering colleges in the nation. Being one of the most active and strongest research and educational institutions in the University of Texas (UT) system, the UTA currently attracts lots of talented students from all over the world to work and live in this rapidly growing Metroplex. For more information about the UTA, please visit https://www.uta.edu/.
