CSC PhD Student position from 2023/24 to study the function of PR1 family proteins in pathogenesis A CSC-funded PhD positions is available to studythe function of PR1 family proteins in pathogenesis. Plant PR1 proteins are important to mount an immune response against phytopathogens. However, PR1 family proteins are also present in humans and in many non-plant pathogens, such as hookworms and the cobra venom. The mode of action of these small cysteine-rich secreted proteins is unknown. We are employing in vitro and in vivo assays to characterize the mode of action of this large and important family of proteins. Additional experience in yeast or plant genetics or lipid biochemistry would be an asset. The position is available immediately for the duration of 4-5 years.
