Several (2-3) postdoctoral or visiting fellow positions in the field of the tumor microenvironment are available in Dr. Jing Yang’s lab at Houston Methodist Cancer Center, Houston Methodist Research Institute. The selected candidate will be responsible for the projects aimed at identifying biomarkers or therapeutic targets within the bone marrow tumor microenvironment of multiple myeloma for better prevention, diagnosis, or therapy improvement. The goal of Dr. Yang’s translational research program is to explore the innovative mechanisms by which the tumor microenvironment promotes the pathogenesis and drug resistance of multiple myeloma. The lab currently focuses on the interaction of tumor cells with adipocytes/osteocytes/NK cells/T lymphocytes, the association between obesity and cancer, and the role of the bone marrow microenvironment in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and bone metastasis. These studies aim to provide novel and potential therapeutic targets and tools for the enhanced therapy efficacy, early detection, and prevention of myeloma patients. Please refer to our most recent publications for more information (Science Translational Medicine (2016, PMID: 27559096); Science Translational Medicine (2019, PMID: 31142679); Cell Metabolism (2021, PMID:33406405); Nature Communication (2022). We are seeking a highly motivated and independent candidate who a recent Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree with less than two years of postdoctoral experience in the following (or relevant) areas: molecular/cellular biology, oncology, metabolism, immunology, pathology, tumor metastasis, and bone disease research. A candidate with a strong molecular biology and signal transduction background is preferred. The pay scale follows the NIH guidelines. A track record of excellent first-author publication during Ph.D. training will be helpful. Applications, including curriculum vitae, a brief cover letter, and the contact information of three references should be sent to Dr. Jing Yang: jyang2@houstonmethodist.org.
