Dr. Ziyou Song’s lab (https://ziyousongthu.wixsite.com/website) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is now looking for passionate and highly motivated Postdoc Researchers. Two Postdoc positions with internationally competitive salary are immediately available in energy storage areas, including but not limited to: • Advanced Battery Management System: o Battery string- and pack-level state/parameter estimation o Mechanism of cell-to-cell variation among parallel-connected battery cells o Data-driven methods for: 1) detecting cell-level faults in battery packs; 2) estimating battery remaining useful life; and 3) fast evaluating/classifying the used battery cells • Applications of Energy Storage in Renewable Energy Systems o G2V/V2G techniques for smart cities o Reusing batteries retiring from vehicles o Economy analysis of energy storage (e.g., battery, fuel cell, supercapacitor, flywheel, etc) Using energy storage as a bridge, we are actively connecting the automotive, transportation, and power system communities by collaborating on interdisciplinary projects to ensure that both power system and transportation system are efficient, reliable, and clean. Preferred Qualifications: Applicants are expected to have BS/MS/PhD degrees in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation, Power and Energy, Applied Mathematics or other related fields. Specific qualifications for different positions are listed below: • Postdoc researchers: o Solid modeling, programming, and good communication skills are required o Similar research background and good writing skill are required o Deep understanding of optimization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence is highly desired o Strong motivation and interest toward a career in academia is highly desired o A good publication record is desired Prospective candidates are welcome to reach out to Dr. Song at ziyou@nus.edu.sg with your CV, transcripts, and 1-page cover letter introducing your research background and interest. About PI: Dr. Ziyou Song joins the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NUS, as an Assistant Professor in November 2021. He received B.E. degree (with honours) and Ph.D. degree (with highest honours) in Automotive Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2011 and 2016, respectively. After graduation, he worked as a Research Scientist at Tsinghua University from 2016-2017. From 2017 to 2019, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was also an Assistant Research Scientist/Lecturer from 2019 to 2020. Prior to joining NUS, he was a Battery Algorithm Engineer at Apple Inc., Cupertino, US, where he was in charge of battery management system for Audio products (e.g., AirPods). Dr Song’s research interests lie in the areas of modelling, estimation, optimization, and control of energy storage (e.g., battery, supercapacitor, and flywheel) for electrified vehicles and renewable energy systems. He is the author or co-author of 2 book chapters and more than 50 peer-reviewed publications including 40 journal articles. He has received several paper awards, including Applied Energy 2015-2016 Highly Cited Paper Award, Applied Energy Award for Most Cited Energy Article from China, NSK Outstanding Paper Award of Mechanical Engineering, and 2013 IEEE VPPC Best Student Paper Award. Dr. Song serves as reviewer for more than 40 international journals. He also serves as Assistant Editor in Chief for Automotive Innovation and Associate Editor for SAE International Journal of Electrified Vehicles.
