Job Description A Postdoctoral Scholar position in the areas of Robotics & Artificial Intelligence (AI) is available at University of California, Davis, for working on an USDA/NSF-funded project as part of the AI Institute for Food Systems (AIFS). The main goal of the project is to develop foundational AI techniques, such as reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and transfer learning, that enable robots to operate in agricultural environments reliably and safely. The position will be co-supervised by Dr. Zhaodan Kong, an associate professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Dr. Stavros Vougioukas, a professor of Biological and Aerospace Engineering. Kong and Vougioukas can be found at: https://aifs.ucdavis.edu/ https://cphslab.engineering.ucdavis.edu https://faculty.engineering.ucdavis.edu/vougioukas/ The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting high-quality research to advance theoretical, algorithmic, and/or experimental foundations for the development of next-generation robotics systems for future food systems. The candidate is also expected to work with our collaborators within AIFS to validate the developed systems in simulated and real environments. The candidate will further be involved in the presentation and publication of the results to our sponsors, the academic community, and the public. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. The position requires experience with robotics, either ground or aerial, AI, e.g., reinforcement learning, as well as programming experience and familiarity with ROS and Python. Experiences with field robotics would be a huge plus.
