Thank you for submitting your manuscript to Applied Surface Science. Although your research did use surface sensitive techniques, such as XPS, it has limited focus on the atomic details of the chemical and physical processes occurring on the surface/interface. I believe that a journal focused on bulk alloy properties or on corrosion would fit your work better. If you do want to continue pursuing to get this manuscript published in Appl. Surf. Sci., the following changes are required: 1. The Cu2p spectra fail to capture the background of the Cu2p3/2 peak at the lower binding energy side of the peak. 2. The signal to noise/background is quite low, which makes the fitting challenging. 3. No attempt has been made to fit the Cu2+ peak and satellite. 4. the background in Fig 8c cuts through the peak. This is probably related to point 1. 5. Crucial details regarding XPS measurements and analysis are missing. At the minimum, the following is required: X-ray source energy, binding energy calibration, background pressure, background subtraction, fitting function used, and all the fitting parameters for the fits shown. To address all these points, remeasuring and refitting the Cu2p region is probably necessary. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your work. |
