密西根州立招phd, strong interest in glass transition and polymer rheology

The Polymer Surfaces and Interfaces group at Michigan State University (MSU) (https://www.egr.msu.edu/softmate ... n-state-university) has two Ph.D. openings immediately. The position includes the structure and dynamics of polymeric materials in complex geometries or far from equilibrium for applications in energy, environment, and infrastructure. Highly motivated students with a strong interest in glass transition and polymer rheology are encouraged to apply. Strong background in polymer physics is preferred but not required for application. Ph.D. students will be supported with a full scholarship. Interesting applicants shall send a CV with detailed academic achievements to Dr. Shiwang Cheng at chengsh9#msu.edu. The Ph.D. students will have opportunities to work closely with national labs and industrial partners on polymer upcycling and polymer sustainability. The two openings include polymer dynamics at the interface and the rheology and processing of multicomponent polymeric materials for the design and fabrication of novel multi-layer plastics for packaging applications. Specifically, for polymer dynamics at the interface, we target the near-interface dynamics with designed chemical interactions. For the rheology and processing of multicomponent polymeric materials, we aim to unravel the interplay between external deformation and the nonlinear dynamics both in entangled polymers and in polymer nanocomposites. Novel associating polymers with supramolecular structure formation and supramolecular dynamics are the topics of interest. The major characterization tools for these projects are small-angle scattering, advanced spectroscopy, and rheology. MSU is located in East Lansing, a vibrant college town that is very friendly and safe to families and students. Dr. Shiwang Cheng is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. He obtained B.E. (2009) in Macromolecular Science and Engineering at the University of Science and Technology of China, and a Ph.D. (2013) in Polymer Science at the University of Akron. Dr. Cheng has published more than 50 articles and book chapters, including Physical Review Letters (4), Nano Letters (1), ACS Nano (2), ACS Macro Letters (4), Macromolecules (14), Journal of Rheology (3), etc. He has an H-index of 28. Dr. Cheng’s recent research was funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy. |
