First One:

The ISAS – Institute for Analytical Sciences is located in Dortmund and Berlin. Besides
scientific activities in the development of new or improved measuring methods
and analytical separation techniques as well as spectroscopy and spectrometric
equipment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the areas of spectroscopic
methods and analytical contributions to solving problems in the fields of materials
and life sciences. ISAS - Dortmund invites applications for a position of a

PhD student (Physics/ Chemistry).
In the framework of the project surfaces and interfaces in microstructured materials
are modified and functionalized. Task of the PhD work will be the application and development
of methods to characterize, optimize and standardize surface modifications
in micro-fluidic systems. A part of the work refers to the design and the microstructuring
of polymer substrate chips as well as the integration of electrochemical
and optical detectors with the background of the miniaturization of capillary electrophoretic
methods. An additional focus is the chemical and physico-chemical functionalization
of the polymers and theirs characterization regarding theirs interaction with
fluids (zeta potential).
A possible candidate has a strong disposition to learn new techniques and to improve
and develop these methods instrumentally further. We expect strong motivation and
ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team.

equipment in modern analysis, research is undertaken in the areas of spectroscopic
methods and analytical contributions to solving problems in the fields of materials and
life sciences. For our Department of Interface Spectroscopy in Berlin, ISAS invites
applications for a position for a DFG- Projekt (in cooperation between Clemson University,
Clarkson University, Leibniz-Institute for Polymer Research Dresden, University
of Göttingen and ISAS) in the frame of: „Materials World Network: Design of new
responsive materials based on functional polymer brushes for smart tuning and sensoring
of proteins and particles adsorption“ of a
PhD student (Physics).
The PhD student will work in the highly motivating atmosphere of an interdisciplinary
team. Aim of the work is the research of the structure of ultrathin polymer films and
structural changes upon adsorption of nano particle and proteins. Focus of the experimental
work will be the use of Infrared Spectroscopy (Ellipsometry, Reflection
Absorption Spectroscopy). Research travels to Clemson and Clarkson University are
foreseen.
