Blurb-Background of Scholarship:

Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship opportunity in the Waikato Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing at the School of Engineering,University of Waikato,New Zealand This project is funded by the Royal Society Te Aparangi (Marsden Fund) （https://www.royalsociety.org.nz/ ... n-fund-awards-2021), and will investigate the factors affecting interface formation in copper/diamond composite materials and determine how they influence the composite's thermophysical properties, to develop better composite materials for thermal management in hiah-power electronic devices,The successful applicant should be eliaible to enroll at the UniversityofWaikato(pleasecheckPhDenrollmentrequirements at: https://calendar.waikato.ac.nz/regulations/higher/phd).

Candidates should hold a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree in a relevant subject such as Materials Science,Materials and Process Engineering or an associated discipline.Prior research experience in metal composite materals preparation and interface desian and characterisation, together with the ability to analyse,develop and solve open-ended research problems is desirable. Desirable attributes also include knowledge of powder metallurgy interface science.thermomechanical processing and materials charactersation, and a strong background in metallurgy and metals. Students with a strong physics background or experience in first-principles computational simulation research are also welcome to apply.

Expected starting date:1 June 2022 Location:Hamilton, New Zealand
Funding amount:NZ $35,000 per annum plus domestic fees for a period of three years
