One CSC-funded PhD position is open in Photonic and Ultrasound Research Lab in King's College London (KCL). School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences | London | United Kingdom Supervisor: Dr Wenfeng Xia 1. University Information KCL is a leading university at UK (https://www.kingshealthpartners. ... gs-college-london). Particularly, KCL has ranked 4th globally for Medical Technologies in the Shanghai Ranking and is also 3rd in the UK for Medical Technology & Bioengineering Education in the Complete University Guide. King's College London has also been ranked 1st in Europe and 3rd in the world for Medical Imaging. 2. Research topics: Our research is centred on the development and clinical translation of novel medical devices to improve patient outcomes during surgical and interventional procedures (Group main page link: https://www.purlkcl.org ). Perspective candidate will work on a project in one of two potential areas according to their specific interest: - Photoacoustic imaging: an emerging modality that provides rich optical contrast with highly scalable spatial-resolution and penetration-depth. Biomedical photoacoustic imaging is proven to have great potential for many pre-clinical and clinical applications. The project will be focused on the development of imaging system and/or pre-clinical validation. - Ultrasonic tracking: identifying the tip of medical device during many ultrasound image-guided minimally invasive procedures. 3. Funding information: Kings-China Scholarship Council PhD Scholarship programme (K-CSC) is provided for Chinese students to pursue Ph.D degrees at King's College London. Successful students will receive a scholarship that covers the tuition fee, an annual living allowance that includes overseas student health cover, a return airfare to London and visa application fees. Up to 100 K-CSC scholarship awards will be available for the 2021-22 competition (https://www.kcl.ac.uk/research/a ... or-applicants.pdf). 4. Requirements: - A 1st class or upper second degree, or equivalent degree in relevant engineering subjects such as biomedical engineering, physics, electronic and electrical engineering. Candidates with knowledge in optics and ultrasound are preferred. - IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill or TOEFL 92 overall with a minimum of 23 in writing and 20 in each of the other skills. 5.
