1. Two Al metal slugs of the same mass, one at T1 and the other at T2, are placed in contact and come to thermal equilibrium in an insulated container. Assume that C p, Al is constant between T1 and T2, obtain an expression for the entropy change during this thermal equilibrium process.

2. Show: (∂S/∂P)V = CPβ/Tα - Vα

3. Evaluate (∂H/∂T)V - (∂E/∂T)P in terms of known thermodynamic quantities. Calculate the corresponding value for an ideal gas?

4. Calculate the enthalpy and the entropy changes of 1 mole of fcc-iron when it is brought without phase transformation from 1 atm to 1x105 atm at 1250K.

5 Derive the dE expression and the associated Gibbs-Duhem equation for an open system. Hint: E=E(S,V,ni) and it is a homogeneous function of degree 1.

6 Define chemical potential I in terms of Gibbs free energy G. Provide the conditions for equilibrium for a system of m components and  phases.
