JOB DISCRIPTION

We announce the availability of a full time postdoctoral position to strengthen the Organic Synthesis Research Group (https://www.OS.ugent.be). Successful candidates will be offered a one year sholarship at a competitive salary, as an employee of the Department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at Ghent University in Belgium (https://www.orgchem.ugent.be). The scholarship is renewable up to a maximum duration of 3 years in total.
You will develop and subsequently apply new stereoselective methods for the synthesis of poly- and carbocyclic compounds. You will help coordinate research efforts of PhD students in the organic synthesis research group, as well as work on your own individual research lines. Target compounds include medicinally relevant heterocyclic scaffolds as well as selected polycyclic natural products. As a particular focus in these projects, dearomative cycloadditions will be targeted that can transform common (hetero)aromatic scaffolds into more interesting sp3-rich scaffolds.

The chemistry departments are the historical home of August Kekul¨???s molecular structure for benzene, and currently encompass 20 dedicated research groups, forming an international community of more than 160 postdocs and PhD students.

YOUR PROFILE
- You should have a PhD degree in organic chemistry, with a specialty in organic synthesis.
- The conditions of the fellowship stipulate that the PhD degree cannot be obtained at a Belgian university and the candidate cannot have resided in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years.
- Y ou must have a strong background in compound purification techniques, and structural characterization of organic molecules with elements of stereochemistry.
- Ideally, candidates for this position will have experience in cycloaddition or cascade cyclisation chemistry, stereoselective transition metal-catalyzed reactions, and/or natural compound synthesis.
- You have a creative mind and are highly motivated to perform chemical reactions in the lab. The ability to work in a team as well as good communication skills and a good mastery of English as the preferred working language is essential.

JOB DISCRIPTION
We announce the availability of a full time postdoctoral position to strengthen the Organic Synthesis Research Group (https://www.OS.ugent.be). Successful candidates will be offered a one-year sholarship at a competitive salary, as an employee of the department of Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at Ghent University in Belgium (https://www.orgchem.ugent.be). The scholarship is renewable up to a maximum duration of 3 years in total.
You will develop and subsequently apply new dynamic covalent bond forming reactions for applications in materials science and chemical modification of biomacromolecules. You will help coordinate research efforts of PhD students in the organic synthesis research group, as well as work on your own individual research lines. Targeted applications involve innovative thiol-thiol cross-linking platforms, as well as the chemistry of triazolinediones as click reagents. As a particular focus in these projects ??on demand?? reversible adhesives and bioconjugate strategies for innovative immunotherapies will be targeted, in close collaboration with research groups that are active in these areas.

- Ideally, candidates for this position will have experience in physical organic chemistry, studies of reaction kinetics, bioconjugation chemistry, click chemistry and/or dynamic covalent chemistry. An interest in materials chemistry or polymer chemistry is a bonus for the project.
- You have a creative mind and are highly motivated to perform chemical reactions in the lab. The ability to work in a team as well as good communication skills and a good mastery of English as the preferred working language is essential.
