Visiting Student/Scientist at Harvard Medical School

The Chen and Mentzer labs at brigham and women’s hospital and harvard medical school has openings for visiting research scientists and pre-med students in solid mechanics/mechanical metamaterials/soft robotics/biomechanics areas. Candidates with outstanding background in mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, physics, biomedical engineering (or any related field) with strong publication records are encouraged to submit a full cv, a cover letter stating research experience and interests, and the contact information of three references to dr. zi chen at zchen33(at)bwh.harvard.edu. Dr. chen has been involved in research projects that have collectively been supported by over $17 million in grants with around $3.8 million grants to dr. chen’s laboratory from national institute of health, national science foundation, office of naval research, society in science, and facebook inc. dr. chen has received a number of prestigious awards and honors including society in science ╟ branco weiss fellowship, international association of advanced materials innovation award, marquis who’s who in the world, outstanding paper award at the asme 2013 2nd global congress on nanoengineering for medicine and biology (nemb), american academy of mechanics founder’s award, mrs graduate student award silver award, etc. dr. steven mentzer is a professor of surgery at harvard medical school and a thoracic surgeon at brigham and women's hospital. his research is in the area of biomechanics of lung development and regeneration, angiogenesis, and bio-derived adhesives for biomedical engineering applications. Our group strives to provide a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment with exciting research topics and excellent colleagues where the candidates are trained to become outstanding independent researchers, with sufficient freedom to explore their own ideas while working on well-designed projects.
