The computational optics lab at duke university, led by dr. roarke horstmeyer, is hiring highly motivated postdoctoral scholars to join a growing interdisciplinary team. postdoctoral positions are open for applicants with a recent phd in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, applied physics or another related discipline who are interested in working at the intersection of biomedical optics, computational imaging, and machine learning. the computational optics lab is located within duke university's fitzpatrick center for photonics and currently includes both biomedical engineers and electrical engineers from a diverse range of backgrounds. the lab is currently focused on research projects that include deep-tissue imaging with diffuse correlation spectroscopy(for both clinical translation and basic neuroscience study), gigapixel-scale microscope design, and automated solutions for point-of-care imaging diagnostics. additional details about current projects may be found on the lab website. desired skills for researchers joining the lab span from having experience with table-top optical experiments, to the development of optimization and machine learning software development, to working to translate new technology into clinical use. the candidate will ideally work with current students in the lab to assist with their projects, and also initiate her or his own projects related to the lab’s current research areas (please see the computational optics lab website: https://horstmeyer.pratt.duke.edu, or https://deepimaging.io/). while we are seeking candidates with specific experience with optical scattering, diffuse imaging/spectroscopy, microscopic imaging, and image post-processing algorithms, for example, experience in such areas is not required, and candidates with a variety of backgrounds will be considered. applicants should be independent, creative, well-organized, and able to manage multiple and changing priorities as needed to move experiments and the research program forward in a fast-paced environment. excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to research and work ethic, and a positive attitude are important within our team. desired background: • a phd degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, applied physics, physics or a related research field • knowledge of optics, photonics, imaging, experience with clinical translation, knowledge of software for optimization, computer vision, machine learning and/or other processing • experience with programming in matlab and/or python for more information or to learn more about the application process, please email dr. roarke horstmeyer at roarke.w.horstmeyer@duke.edu and/or hiring.computationalopticslab@gmail.com |
