导师介绍(https://research-repository.uwa.edu.au/en/persons/wen-lei
Dr. Wen lei is a professor and an arc future fellow at University of Western Australia and leads the electronic materials and devices research lab (EMDRL) at school of electrical, electronic and computer engineering, University of Western Australia. Since his PhD study (2003), he has been working on the epitaxial growth (MBE, MOCVD and CVD) and characterization of semiconductor thin film materials, and their applications in devices such as detectors, lasers, and solar cells. He holds 2 patents and has published over 100 high profile papers in top journals like Applied Physics Reviews, Physical Review Letters, Nano Letters, Small, Analytical Chemistry, Nanoresearch, Nanoscale, Applied Physics Letters, etc. He was awarded his prestigious ARC future fellowship in 2013 and ARC Australian postdoctoral fellowship in 2006. He is also a lead guest editor/editorial board member of five international journals and a regular reviewer for various international prestigious journals and funding agencies.

招生简介及要求
PhD, joint-training PhD, visiting student, and visiting scholar positions (semiconductor materials and devices) available at the University of Western Australia

The electronic materials and devices research lab (EMDRL) in school of electrical, electronic and computer engineering at University of Western Australia invites applications for PhD, joint-training PhD, visiting students, and visiting scholars in the area of semiconductor materials and devices. The EMDRL is one of two main research groups in Australia working on compound semiconductor optoelectronics.  As a part of the WA node of Australian National Fabrication Facility, the lab has access to all the facilities required for semiconductor optoelectronic research, ranging from material growth, to material characterization, to device processing, to device testing, and to system application. Those facilities include some large facilities, such as molecular beam epitaxy, and class 1000 cleanroom integrated with photolithography, wet/dry etching, PECVD, e-beam/thermal evaporator, etc. World-class research on infrared optoelectronic devices, especially infrared detectors have been demonstrated in the last 20 years, as evidenced by the numerous high impact scientific publications and many national and international competitive research grants received. These grants include ARC Discovery, ARC Future Fellowship, ARC Linkage (with industrial partner Raytheon), USA DARPA (with industrial partner SELEX Galileo), and direct industrial grants, e.g. Agilent Australia.
The research lab is led by professor Wen Lei, an ARC future fellow with the research focus on developing next generation optoelectronic materials and devices, and next negation energy conversion and storage devices. Current research areas include:
        Thin film infrared materials and detector devices;
        Novel low-dimensional semiconductor electronic materials and devices, including quantum dots, nanowires, and 2-dimensional materials;
        Chemi/bio-sensors for environmental monitoring applications;
        Energy conversion and storage materials and devices, including solar cells, thermoelectric devices, and battery.
We are looking for outstanding candidates to join our research lab, including PhD, joint-training PhD, visiting students, and visiting scholars. Together with you, we will perform cutting-edge research on the ongoing projects in our group.
Regarding the application for Australian PhD scholarship, the successful candidate will be offered an excellent Australian scholarship to cover the tuition fee and living allowance. The living allowance is around $30,000/year.
Regarding the application for China CSC PhD scholarship/fellowship, we will cover your tuition fee and top up your scholarship based on your performance.
To be considered for these PhD Positions, the interested candidates should meet the following criteria:
        Master in electronic engineering, materials science and engineering, semiconductor materials, physics and devices, condensed matter physics, and other related fields;
        Solid knowledge and experimental experience in the area of materials, physics and devices, (experience in semiconductor materials and devices is more desirable).
        Ability to pursue independent research.
        Ability to work in an inter-disciplinary team.
        Excellent writing and communication skills in English.
— English language competency for PhD admission, see https://www.uwa.edu.au/study/how ... nguage-requirements (e.g. IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 (must include academic reading and writing modules); TOFEL (internet-based test (IBT)): an overall score of 82 with a minimum score of: 22 in the writing section; 18 in the reading section; 20 in the speaking section; and 20 in the listening section). No specific language requirement for joint-training PhD, visiting students, and visiting scholars, however you must fit into the working environment and know the basic language skills to work together with colleagues.
