Quantum electrodynamics in light-matter interactions @ NTU Singapore
|
|
We are seeking talented, independent-minded and highly motivated postdocs (PhD) keen on theoretically and/or experimentally tackling fundamental questions in the study of light-matter interactions. In particular, we focus on free electron radiation: the radiation emitted from free electrons in the presence of external fields, nanostructures or quantum materials. The project aims to conclusively demonstrate that the shaping of electron wavepackets can affect the shape of outgoing radiation. Our objective is to develop electron waveshaping as a versatile tool for enhancing the output of compact X-ray sources and single-photon sources. Potential applications include medical imaging and quantum information. This builds on our recent breakthroughs in QED theory (Nature Comms 2021: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-21367-1) and in generating X-ray radiation in van der Waals materials (Nature Photonics 2020: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41566-020-0689-7). Our group explores novel phenomena and groundbreaking applications arising from light-matter interactions. We are based at the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore (新加坡南洋理工大学). Job responsibilities: • For theorists: Development of quantum electrodynamical models for free electron radiation. Development of techniques for enhancing and tailoring free electron-driven X-ray radiation via electron waveshaping. • For experimentalists: Demonstration of shaping X-rays by shaping the wavepacket of input electrons in a transmission electron microscope setup. Development of techniques for enhancing and tailoring free electron-driven X-ray radiation via electron waveshaping. • Publication in top-tier peer-reviewed journals • Assisting PI in grant writing • Supervision of PhD and undergraduate students We are looking for applicants with the following attributes: • PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline, from an internationally recognized institute. • Highly preferred for theorists: Strong background in quantum electrodynamics and quantum field theory. Familiar with photonics. Highly proficient in theoretical and/or computational tools. • Highly preferred for experimentalists: Strong background with transmission electron microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, and/or DC/RF electron guns. Strong background in using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and/or wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy • Self-motivated and highly independent. • Works well individually as well as in a team • Eager to learn new things and passionate about research For more details of our research, visit our • Group website (replace “@@” by “oo”): https://sites.g@@gle.com/view/ljwgroup • LinkedIn: https://sg.linkedin.com/in/liang-jie-wong-795860193 Interested parties should contact Prof. Wong Liang Jie at email address liangjie.wong (at) ntu (dot) edu (dot) sg with CV, full academic transcripts and the contact details of 3 references. For processing purposes, we require all communications and documents to be in English. |
