The Wang Research lab (https://www.wangresearchlab.com) in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Institute of Materials Science (IMS) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) has two Ph.D. positions and one postdoc position with details described below. Ph.D. positions Research: Research topics include (1) Mechanics of advanced materials like energy-storage materials, smart materials, and materials for biomedical applications, (2) Design and fabrication of flexible electronics and architectures, and (3) Soft materials and systems. Our research is highly multidisciplinary and lies at the intersection of mechanics, materials, electronics and chemistry. Students who are interested in any of those related areas are welcome to apply. Qualifications: • A bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related area • A M.S. degree with project experience and publications is preferred but not required Start date: Available for Fall 2021. Postdoc position Research: Candidates with experiences in microfabrication, flexible electronic sensors or mechanics modeling (e.g. finite element modeling) are preferred. Start date: Available immediately, open until filled. If you are interested, please send your CV and transcripts to Dr. Xueju "Sophie" Wang at xueju.wang@uconn.edu. About Dr. Wang: Dr. Xueju (Sophie) Wang is currently an Assistant Professor in MSE and IMS at UConn. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and did her postdoc with Prof. John A. Rogers at Northwestern University. Her current research group focuses on the design and development of flexible electronic sensors and mechanics of advanced materials and functional structures, for applications from energy storage to biomedical devices. His recent works have been published in journals including Nature Communications, PNAS, and Advanced Materials. About UConn: The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public research university in Storrs, Connecticut, about a half hour's drive from Hartford and 90 minutes from Boston. It is a flagship university that is ranked as the best public national university in New England and is tied for 23rd in "top public schools" and tied for 63rd best national university in the 2020 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
