[交流] PHD POSITION in URBAN ECOLOGY in XJTLU

We are looking for a PhD candidate to develop the project “Resource use and genetic divergence in urban and rural populations of Barn Swallows Hirunda rustica”. This project aims to investigate the consequences that urbanization has for this highly charismatic yet understudied species in China.

There will be an advisory team composed by me, Emilio Pagani-Núnez ,from the Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Samantha Patrick from the University of Liverpool (UoL) and Rebecca J. Safran from the University of Colorado at Boulder. The PhD degree will be awarded by UoL and the candidate may enjoy an internship at the UoL of three months. This is a fully funded position by both an internal XJTLU-PGRS and an external NSFC grant. Inscription fees are fully covered and a salary of 5,000 RMB per month during three years is guaranteed. The starting date is negotiable yet preferably no later than February 2021.

We expect the candidate to have a Master degree in a related field, previous fieldwork experience and a 6.5 IELTS score (or a degree from an English-speaking University). The practical part of the project will consist of stable isotope analysis, DNA metabarcoding, field observations and field experiments. The fieldwork will be mainly conducted in Suzhou and surroundings, yet travelling to other provinces may be required.

The position will be based at the Department of Health and Environmental Sciences of the XJTLU, located in the Suzhou Industrial Park. XJTLU is a young research-led University product of a collaboration agreement between the Xi’an Jiaotong University and the UoL. XJTLU has a global community of more than 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 700 academic staff from 50 countries. XJTLU also has a broad set of well-equipped and modern facilities.
