2021 Spring/Fall PhD/Mphil positions in Urban Research Group at HKUST

Two PhD/Mphil positions in Environmental Fluid Mechanics/Urban Climate are available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The prospective student will mainly focus on the coupled heat and moisture transport in the urban atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). He/she will also address other open questions related to urban sustainability, including but not limited to extreme weather, air quality, building energy consumption and water resources. The work will rely on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and weather simulations, experience with modelling is thus advantageous. The research will be supervised by Professor Jiachuan Yang (https://cejcyang.people.ust.hk/), questions about the scope of the work can be addressed to (cejcyang@ust.hk). PhD candidates should possess a Bachelor or Master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science or related disciplines. Good background with research experience in Fluid Mechanics or Climate Modeling is highly preferred. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are required, andIELTS overall score > 6.5 (TOEFL-iBT > 80). The scholarship is ~17800 HKD per month.
