海外博士后面试经历_扫描光学显微镜 at National University of Singapore

phone interview with prof. qing-hua xu: 1. prof. xu told me about the job contents of the position with snom + femtosecond laser on organic nanomaterials; 2. prof. xu asked why i did not go to attend his talk on two-photon imaging at my phd study; 3. prof. xu asked if i did chemical synthesis and i replied my undergraduate background of applied chemistry; 4. prof. xu told me his lab facility and the nt-mdt snom late delivery; 5. prof. xu asked and i replied that i wanted to do surface plasmon polariton or nanophotonics on nanowires and 2d materials; 6. prof. xu asked my current salary and proposed a monthly salary of 25,000 hku; 7. i asked and prof. xu replied about the contract was based on 1 year and renewable to 2 years; 8. we discussed my plan to bring my wife with me and the visa condition about the spous; 9. we discussed 3 reference letters sent to prof. xu after christmas; 10. we discussed my arrival date to nus and when i quit my current job. end on 14 dec 2015. offer came on 24 feb 2016. 缘起：我找海外博士后，投过126个简历，有过十几次欧美博士后面试。其中印象深刻的是英国大学的2次面试，因为我不是被问教科书知识就是被问到答不出来；还有两次美国大学的华人老板面试，其中一个当场给了offer，结果后面email交流offer细节之下发现是坑，因为没有假期和自付保险；还有中美联合项目的面试，是给offer最早的(一般国内的offer肯定是最早到的)，却在内地大学的人事部这个环节上不顺畅，最后发现也是坑。这么多次面试、拒信和offer，我最后的选择是最符合我的能力和兴趣的，所以说这个被筛选和筛选offer的过程，正是对自己的科研能力和兴趣越来越明晰的过程，最终达到一个劳资双方都匹配的状态。回头来看，我是应该感谢那两所英国大学如此严格的面试以及拒信的，否则即便我拿到了他们的offer，我的表现可能很差，最终双输。当然，伴随着这个找博士后过程的是焦虑、恐慌、诱惑，人难以很从容地做决定。但是，我的经验是即使面试当场给了offer、面对当场答应就解脱的诱惑，自己都必须冷静几天考虑一下在平静状态下再做决定。也正因为此，我会将这些博士后面试经历陆续分享出来，希望对其他找海外博士后的虫友有所帮助。 |
