Concrete (2nd Edition) Sidney Mindess, J. Francis Young, David Darwin Prentice Hall 2002 Much progress has been made in many areas of concrete technology since the publication of the first edition of Concrete. For those familiar with the first edition, very little has been removed, while the chapters on cements, aggregates, chemical admixtures, concrete construction practices, and durability have undergone major revision. In addition, the text now contains new, separate chapters on *mineral admixtures *high-strength concrete *cement-polymer composites *fiber-reinforced concrete As in the first edition, the authors present a unified view of concrete behavior based on basic principles. The material on workability of concrete is prefaced by a general discussion of the principle of rheology; mechanical properties are discussed from the point of view of concrete as a multiphase material; and the underlying chemistry of hydration and microstructure of hardened cement paste are emphasized.
