New PhD application about Stress and Cognition: Applications are invited for a PhD student position at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Stress has a major impact on many different aspects of cognition. This is highly critical for adaptation in an ever-changing environment but may also increase vulnerability to psychopathology. Stressful and emotionally arousing experiences are typically well conserved, leading to strong and long-lasting memories. Much less is known, however, with regard to how stressful and emotional experiences also might affect the quality, i.e., the detailedness and accuracy, of such strengthened memories. The balance between the accuracy of a memory (i.e., remembering exactly what happened where and when) and its generalization to distinct, but similar situations is critical for guiding optimal behaviors. Within this theme, a PhD project is available that aims to dissect the neural mechanisms by which stress alters memory accuracy and generalization in rodent models of learning and memory. Experimental methods include： -animal behavior -neuropharmacology -chemogenetics -fiber photometry -immunohistochemistry and Western blot analysis You will work under the direct supervision of Prof. Benno Roozendaal and Dr. Marloes Henckens, and will be responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting research data. Ideal candidate for this position has: - a Master's degree in neuroscience or psychology or relevant field - strong interest for multidisciplinary research - a good command of written and spoken English - good communication skills - the ambition to become an independent top-flight scientist The successful candidate will be coached for an application to Chinese Scholarship Council.
