2020Fall PhD/Postdoc in Urban Climate (CFD/WRF) at HKUST, Prof. Jiachuan Yang

PhD/Postdoc positions in Urban Climate Modeling is available in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The prospective researcher will mainly focus on the influence of building infrastructure/vehicles on the dynamics of coupled heat and moisture transport in the urban atmospheric boundary layer (ABL). The postdoctoral research associate will also address other open questions related to extreme weather and urban planning. The work will rely on a combination of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), large eddy simulations (LES) and WRF modeling; experience with one of these models is thus advantageous. The research will be supervised by Professor Jiachuan Yang (https://facultyprofiles.ust.hk/profiles.php?profile=jiachuan-yang-cejcyang), questions about the scope of the work can be addressed to (cejcyang@ust.hk). PhD candidates should possess a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science or related disciplines. Good background with research experience in Fluid Mechanics or Climate Modeling is highly preferred. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently are required, and IELTS overall score > 6.5. The scholarship is ~17800 HKD per month.
