Electronic Commerce Research Journal http://www.springer.com/business ... stems/journal/10660 http://liss.whu.edu.cn/mines2009/ Special Issue on Ubiquitous Electronic Commerce Systems (UECS) Introduction Ubiquitous computing is a post-desktop model of human-computer interaction in which information processing has been thoroughly integrated into everyday objects and activities. As opposed to the desktop paradigm, in which a single user consciously engages a single device for a specialized purpose, someone "using" ubiquitous computing engages many computational devices and systems simultaneously, in the course of ordinary activities, and may not necessarily even be aware that they are doing so. Emerging ubiquitous electronic commerce systems (UECS) are expected to be available anytime, anywhere, and using different official or personal computing devices. Systems and services such as digital libraries, on-line business transactions, mobile office and mobile TV are widely deployed. Users will be able to access these services anytime, anywhere, while using any computing device in a pervasive way. For example, a user may bring a PDA on a field trip, carry a laptop (with both wireless and wired network cards) on a business trip, use high performance workstations at work, and use desktop PCs at home (with dial-up, cable, or DSL connection). In another example, a user continues to watch the soccer game over home TV, while he watches the game through a mobile device out of home. Some other ubiquitous services include mobile games and entertainment, mobile blog, mobile community, home network, and so on. Since ubiquitous electronic commerce systems (UECS) or services are constructed on the convergence of various networks (wired or wireless networks, broadcasting or multicasting networks, broadband or band-limited networks, etc.) and devices (PC, PDA, Cell Phone, TV, Camera, etc.), the new challenge in ubiquitous commerce management is to deal with heterogeneous client capabilities and dynamic end-to-end network and system resources availability, and to ensure satisfactory quality of service (QoS) support to each client. Additionally, privacy, security and ethical issues are becoming increasingly important topics in ubiquitous computing. This special issue aims to expose the readership to the latest research results on ubiquitous electronic commerce systems (UECS). It will include a number of related topics, demonstrate pioneer work in this field, investigate the novel solutions and discuss the future trends in this field. Topics Submitted papers may focus on business models, architecture construction, algorithm design or hardware implementation. Both theoretical and technical papers are expected. The topics include but are not limited to: • Ubiquitous e-commerce systems and personalization • Adaptive ubiquitous e-commerce systems based on intelligent context management • Innovative ubiquitous e-commerce systems • Personal mobile devices for ubiquitous e-commerce • Intelligent user interface in ubiquitous e-commerce • Reliable interactions in ubiquitous e-commerce • Secure payment for ubiquitous e-commerce services • Trust management in ubiquitous e-commerce • Privacy preserving and protection in ubiquitous e-commerce Original papers that have not been submitted or published are welcome. Best Papers Selected from Conference Revised version of the best papers selected from the 2009 International Conference on Multimedia Information NEtworking and Security (MINES2009) (http://liss.whu.edu.cn/mines2009/) will be invited to this special issue. The revised version must have at least 40% difference from the conference paper. Submission Papers will be accepted based on peer review and should contain original, high quality work. All papers must be written in English. All information for paper formatting may be found on the IEEE Authors Kit (Paper Formatting).
