:$55,000 - $65,000 a year postdoctoral fellowship position: epidemiology of vaccine coverage & safety, with a focus on immunocompromised populations position summary: applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position at the university of alberta in edmonton, alberta, canada. the fellow will work under the supervision of dr. shannon macdonald (https://www.ualberta.ca/nursing/ ... shannon-macdonald). dr. macdonald is a tenure-track faculty member in the faculty of nursing and adjunct faculty in the school of public health at the university of alberta. her program of research focuses on vaccine uptake and safety, with an emphasis on addressing system-level barriers and supports to achieving high immunization coverage, especially in vulnerable populations. her research team consists of a research program coordinator, a project coordinator and epidemiologist, a postdoctoral fellow focusing on public health/vaccine economics, as well as various graduate students and undergraduate honors students. the fellow’s primary project(s) will be in the area of uptake and safety of live vaccines in immunocompromised populations. this work uses large administrative health datasets. under the mentorship of dr. macdonald, the fellow will be conducting data management and analysis, interpretation, and presentation of findings (publications, reports, presentations). there will be opportunity for the fellow to develop leadership and project management skills, as well as to collaborate with clinicians and policy makers as integrated knowledge users in the research process. this full-time position is available for a period of one year, starting as soon as possible. the fellowship includes the possibility of renewal for a second year, contingent on satisfactory performance and funding availability. the fellow will be expected to seek external postdoctoral funding through sources such as cihr, wchri, and alberta innovates. the fellow will receive a yearly salary ranging between $55,000 - $65,000, dependent on qualifications and experience, with some extended health benefits, university office space, use of appropriate computational services, and full access to university libraries. an additional $5,000 will be available for knowledge translation activities, including conference travel. qualifications: phd or phd-equivalent in health services research, epidemiology, sociology, nursing, biostatistics, or a related field experience with using a variety of statistical software (e.g., spss, sas, stata, r) and in advanced multivariable modeling techniques. willingness to learn sas is essential, and existing proficiency in sas is an asset a high level of proficiency in statistical analyses with large administrative health datasets strong competencies in ms office software excellent written and verbal communication skills strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated abilities as a team player detail oriented with strong problem finding, resolution and documentation skills a background in vaccine epidemiology is a definite asset ability to relocate to edmonton is essential duties and responsibilities: prepare detailed analytic plans prepare data for analysis (e.g. cleaning, linking, and recoding) establish/manage data files and undertake metadata documentation analyze data using basic and advanced statistical methods such as multivariable, multilevel, and time series approaches data visualization (e.g. generating tables, graphs, and charts) for publication and presentation interpret and clearly communicate results verbally and in writing write and edit methodological and statistical content for manuscripts and abstracts assist with grant writing as necessary to apply: interested candidates are asked to submit an application consisting of: 1) a detailed cover letter describing how the candidate’s background and previous training fit the qualifications of the position and their ability to meet the duties and responsibilities 2) a curriculum vitae 3) two recent publications 4) contact information for two academic references please submit these to: jillian paragg, phd, smacdon@ualberta.ca research program coordinator for shannon macdonald, rn, phd closing date: the position will remain open until filled. we thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those individuals selected for an interview will be contacted. the university of alberta is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce. we welcome applications from all qualified persons. we encourage women; first nations, métis and inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas and the university to apply. |
