Doctoral and Postdoctoral Openings in Optics and Photonics

ABOUT THE POSITION We are looking for highly motivated graduate researchers and postdoctoral fellows in the research areas of optics and photonics. We believe massless photons are extremely critical information carriers with the ultimate data speed. We thus strive to bring optical solutions to real-world applications such as augmented reality, 3D displays, and integrated quantum light sources. For prospective postdocs, please contact Shoufeng directly by email (shoufeng@tamu.edu <shoufeng@tamu.edu>;]) with your CV, a description of your research interests, and contact information for three references. If you have extra information such as independent funding experience, please also put it in the email. For prospective graduate students, we would like you to have solid scientific strength in one of the areas: physics, engineering, chemistry, materials science, and biological science. Experience with optical experiments, fabrication, and analytical/numerical simulations is a plus but not necessary. Both graduate research assistantships and university fellowships are available.

ABOUT DR. SHOUFENG LAN He is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Texas A&M University. Before that, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley on the fundamental study of light-matter interactions. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a Physics minor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 scientific contributions published or under review in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. In particular, his papers have appeared in several high-impact journals, including Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, and more. In recognition of his multidisciplinary accomplishments, he received many prestigious awards: the MRS graduate student medal (2015), outstanding Chinese students award (2016), SPIE's D.J. Lovell scholarship (2016), and Sigma Xi's best Ph.D. thesis award (2018).
