Post Doc in Plant or Microbial ecological bioinformatics at Nanjing University

|
Prof Jonathan Adams, an ecologist newly arrived at at Nanjing University, (ResearchGate page: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Jonathan_Adams8), is looking to recruit a post-doc experienced in bioinformatics and interested in ecological genomics. The candidate must be interested in either (or both) of the following research projects: 1) Comparing genomes of tropical and temperate oaks (Quercus) and their relatives, to understand how anti-pathogen defenses and other traits differ between a tropical and temperate environment. The intention is to test classic ecological theories of how biotic selection pressure differs between the tropics and cooler climates. and/or 2) Understanding patterns in community structure, diversity and soil functional metagenome of microbes such as bacteria, fungi and archaea, and small soil animals, in relation to the environment. Project areas include: tropical-polar differences in metagenome function, geographical differences in genes of biogeochemical importances (e.g. isoprene degradation), and variation in community structure of mutualists such as mycorrhizal fungi. The candidate must be familiar with handling and analysing metageomic or metagenetic sequence data from DNA, with experience that can be for any group of organism (not necessarily plants, or microbes), and be eager to learn new approaches and think across disciplinary boundaries. For project area 1), previous specialised knowledge of plant ecological genomics would be helpful, but is not a necessity. Likewise for project area 2), specialized knowledge of microbial ecology is not a necessity, as long as the candidate is eager to learn. The position will be run for 2 years initially, and start within the next 2-3 months. The candidate will be based at Nanjing University, with external collaborations at other universities and institutes in China.
