The  analysis of the reaction products by FT-IR indicated that naphthenic acid and ethylene glycol generate homologous ester. Therefore, this deacidification technique can ensure the refineries to process the crude oil with high acid value safely without upgrading the equipments and pipelines.

The catalytic performances of hydrotalcite-like compounds for esterification of crude oil were evaluated. The appropriate synthesis of both ZnAl HTlc and ZnMgAl HTlc were maintained at 85 ℃ and pH of 9~10 for 24 h. As an effective catalyst for the esterification process, the synthesized ZnAl and ZnMgAl HTlc catalyst could help to reduce acidicity of the crude oil from 3.61 mgKOH/g to 0.32 mgKOH/g and 0.15 mgKOH/g, respectively, when the esterification process occurred at 250 ℃ for 50~60 min to the crude oil with the mass ratio of 200 and 100.
