First of all, we developed a new process for leaching valuable metals from waste lithium ion batteries. The leaching process solves the problem of low acid utilization rate in the current wet recovery process of waste lithium ion batteries. By countercurrent leaching, continuous operation can be realized under the optimal process conditions. Secondly, we selected starch, which is cheap and easy to store, as the leaching reducing agent to replace H2O2, a relatively expensive reducing agent widely used at present. Through a single cycle experiment, the comprehensive leaching rate of lithium is above 98%, the comprehensive leaching rate of nickel and cobalt is above 95%, and the comprehensive leaching rate of manganese is above 93%.

Continuous operation can be realized by countercurrent leaching under optimal (process) conditions. Besides,  we replaced the currently widely used but quite expensive reducing agent H2O2 with starch which is cheaper and easier to store. Through a single cycle experiment, the comprehensive leaching rates of lithium, nickel and cobalt, and manganese were above 98%, 95%, and 93% respectively.

Continuous operation can be achieved under the optimum process conditions. Secondly, we choose low-cost and easy-to-store starch as a leaching reducing agent to replace the more expensive reducing agent H2O2, which is widely used. Through a single cycle experiment, the comprehensive leaching rates of lithium, nickel, cobalt, and manganese were above 98%, 95%, 95% and 93% respectively.
